It doesn't have to be either-or! Let's do more JAX _and_ PyTorch, together! For ex, they can do zero-copy handoff of GPU buffers via DLPack, and AD can be integrated, e.g.: gist.github.com/mattjj/e8b51… There's much more to be done here. With interop, users win!

Having tenure seems to have no practical use. I still need grants, papers, to give seminars, and get awards, which all require approval from my peers and a certain amount of conformity. It's a nice award and makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside, but not sure it changes anything.

Sorry about the tenured white man complaining about tenure cliche. Just my unfiltered thoughts on what it means for the science we do.

Went to a birthday party and met a little girl who likes Elsa from Frozen. I tried to explain how I study thermodynamics, which is just like Elsa’s powers. She wasn’t buying it.

Every time I think I figured out counting, I come across shit like this and realize how hard counting is. This is from the hot hands fallacy fallacy.
Update---hot hand puzzle. Bet only after a streak of reds, and bet on black, win more than half the time.

After 14 fantastic years at @nyuniversity I'll be returning to my alma mater this summer👇
#UWMadison alumnus @KyleCranmer, who played a significant role in the discovery of the Higgs boson, will be the next director of the American Family Insurance Data Science Institute. Now a physics professor at @nyuniversity, Cranmer starts in July 2022. news.wisc.edu/kyle-cranmer-c…

Wow, my group has a competitive Latin and Ballroom dancer! I'm very proud of @GWellawatte's science and dance skills.
The spotlight this week is on Geemi Wellawatte/@GWellawatte, a Ph.D. student advancing machine learning for Chemistry in Prof. White’s lab(@andrewwhite01). How fun to spotlight you! sas.rochester.edu/chm/about/…

Michigan State is asking faculty, staff and I guess grad students (cause I got the email) to *volunteer* in the dining halls because of their severe staffing shortage. Volunteer!

Less than a month to put in your application for the @UofR chemical engineering department. This is a tenure-track opening at the rank of assistant professor rochester.edu/faculty-recrui… Please share with those interested in faculty positions!

When I got #LongCovid in March 2020, I was 38 and healthy. If you are anything like I was then, it is hard to understand how bad Long Covid is. I think that we all have an instinct to just… look away. But, please, it is important that you look. 1/15
